Narjis Al-Zaidi is from the Iraqi Muslim community. She arrived in New Zealand through seeking asylum from Nauru Island as part of the Tampa refugee crisis and has been living in Wellington for the past 16 years. Narjis is now in her final year at university studying a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in International Relations and Political Science and minoring in Public Policy. She grew her passion for women’s rights and advocating for marginalized communities when experiencing the disconnect between herself and her peers in school and seeing the lack of intersectional activism. Narjis is an active member in her community and aims to encourage inclusivity and equity in all spaces so that we are able to create real substantial change and help improve the livelihood and wellbeing of marginalized communities such as refugees/migrants.
